Alan T. Ostlund, age 93, of Annandale died Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Annandale Care Center.
Memorial Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February, 4, 2021 at Heartland Evangelical Free Church in Annandale with Pastor Dennis Johnson officiating. A walk-through visitation will be held from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Private Committal Service will be held 10:45 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2021 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The services will be livestreamed on the website of Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services. Memorials may be given to Heartland Evangelical Free Church.
Alan Theodore Ostlund was born October 16, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Adolph and Wilhelmina (Johnson) Ostlund. Al grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1945. Following his graduation, Al enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country. Upon his discharge, Al attended the University of Minnesota and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Mortuary Science. On August 17, 1956, Al was united in marriage to Barbara J. West in Minneapolis. They made their home in Minneapolis, where they raised their two sons. Al briefly worked in funeral service at Hodroff and Sons Funeral Home in Minneapolis, before going to work for the City of Minneapolis. He devoted 40 years to the City as the testing and inspector of paving. Upon his retirement in 1986, Al and Barb retired to Lake Sylvia, near Annandale.
Al was formerly an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Minneapolis and currently attended Heartland Evangelical Free Church in Annandale. He served as a Southside Township Supervisor, and remained active volunteering for various events and organizations. He was a member of the Annandale Kiwanis. He enjoyed singing and spending time with his friends and family. He will be remembered for his quick wit, friendly smile and his love for the Lord.
Al is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barb of Annandale; sons and their spouses, Wes and Lynne, and Charles and Denise, both of Minnetonka; grandchildren, Andrew (Tiffany), Emily (Rick) Peterson, Lisa (Josh) Litwiller, Reid, and Lauren (Aaron) Perry; great-grandchildren, Elin, Calvin, and Soren; sister, Ruthanne Swenson of Plymouth; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Richard, William, and Arthur.
Alan's grandchildren will serve as urn bearers.
